In detail - Morale
Morale
Troop morale is a critical factor in the resolution of a battle.
The higher the unit’s morale, the higher its effectiveness. Conversely, armed forces can be crippled by low morale, or you may find that troops are much less efficient in combat: they are slower at aiming or recharging their weapons, firing is less accurate and in extreme cases, they are quite likely to panic, flee the front line and refuse to obey orders.

Many factors may impact unit morale: the balance of power between the two blocs in the on-going battle, the intensity of enemy fire, or even recent losses in the squad or the formation.
Knowing this, you can develop tactics aimed specifically at undermining your opponent’s morale just before an assault. Even if it is inaccurate and does not destroy the enemy’s army, barrage fire from your artillery can seriously undermine your opponent’s morale and will enable you to launch an offensive against a panicking foe that will have little chance of repelling your attack.
